Important update received from Ray Wilkinson on May 15, 2015:

I have been informed by Senator Donna Campbell’s office that the bill currently has the votes to pass next Tuesday. That is a lot of time. We see that people can waiver. In order to try and secure extra votes they want us to call two more Senators that are on the fence.
The Lt. Governor needs the help too. It will help him keep the cats in line.
So, please call:
Senator Selinger   512-463-0131
Senator Hinojosa  512-463-0125
Lt. Governor Patrick  512-463-0001
Go Get’em ! Be sure to name the bill number SB 1639!

House Bill 2221

House Bill 2221 would make it more difficult for cities to annex surrounding neighborhoods, especially if they’re not immediately adjacent to city limits.

The bill’s author, state Rep. Dan Huberty, R-Houston, has said it’s needed to give Texans a say over whether their homes become part of a city instead of being annexed against their will as they are now.

Senate Bill: SB 1639

The measure, which now goes to the full Senate would require that any annexation by a major city not take place until the people who are targeted for annexation approve it in an election. The bill, which would stop San Antonio’s planned annexation of some 200,000 residents of unincorporated Bexar County, was approved 5-1 with bipartisan support by the Senate Intergovernmental Relations Committee on Thursday, May 7, 2015.
