Don’t Believe the Hype: Boeing Will Be Just Fine Without the Export-Import Bank

Ed. Note: The Export/Import Bank is corporate welfare that we just cannot afford.

Thank you Congress for allowing Ex/Im to expire. Now Keep it Expired!! The largest recipient of this corporate welfare on the backs of hard-working US taxpayers is Boeing. Airplane manufacturer Boeing is suggesting that it will lay off “several hundred” workers by the end of the year unless lawmakers resurrect the now-defunct Export-Import Bank. Let’s put things in perspective.

Here’s the thing: Airlines in the United States and abroad are desperate for a Boeing aircraft. One American CEO acknowledged, “It’s a really good time to be financing aircraft right now.”

And what about those foreign buyers? Emirates, Dubai’s flagship airline, said it would have no problem purchasing planes without taxpayer-backed export subsidies.

The sky isn’t falling, and companies like Boeing certainly don’t need you to guarantee their business model.
