Obama’s America is Looking More and More Like Detroit

We need to let Congress know that we know the truth and that we demand they abide by the requirements of Obamacare just like we do, until it is fully repealed. Let them know that we cannot vote for anyone who selfishly supports subsidizing Obamacare costs for themselves but not their constituents. No more Congressional exemptions!

Obama’s America is looking more and more like Detroit, and it all starts with killing small businesses with high taxes and costly regulations.

While some Americans may now believe that the fight over Obamacare is old news, those who are hurt by the drastically increased premium cost and higher deductibles certainly don’t see it as old news.  Neither do the thousands of businesses that are being crippled and often destroyed by the additional costs associated with this failed government program.

While small- and mid-sized businesses that cannot absorb the added costs are hurt the worst by Obamacare and other regulations imposed through the DOL, EPA, and other government entities, large businesses are also hurt.

  • There are 1784 Radio Shack stores closing.
  • 400 stores in the Office Depot/Office Max chain are closing.
  • 340 Dollar Tree/Family Dollar stores are closing.
  • Fifty Sears and Kmart stores are set to close, and Sears says it will likely close 600 stores overall.
  • 154 Walmart stores in the United States are set to close.
  • J.C. Penney is closing 47 stores.
  • Macy’s plans to close 36 stores.
  • 175 Gap stores are shutting their doors.
  • 6000 retail locations nationwide are set to close, and many more thousands of jobs will be lost.

But while America is suffering under the weight of burdensome regulations like Obamacare, Congress has worked quietly with Obama to exempt itself and key Congressional staff from the Obamacare nightmare.  Although the law as passed required Congress and their staff to participate in the Obamacare program like the rest of us, after the law was passed Congress did not want to be subjected to the same onerous requirements.  Members of Congress complained that the government mandated options offered by the health exchanges were too limited and not nearly as good as the very generous coverage they already had in place. They complained that they would lose staffers if their staff had to step down to such inferior coverage. They complained that under Obamacare their costs would go up.

So Congressional leaders urged Obama to give them a special exemption. In order to maintain Congressional support for this unpopular law, the Obama administration agreed to create that special exemption for Congress and key staffers. While they did go into the exchanges, they now receive subsidies not available to their constituents, so they do not feel the harmful effects of Obamacare.

Obviously Congress felt that the public relations problems that could arise from these shenanigans were worth the risk, but they had to figure out how to manage the negative fallout. So they agreed behind closed doors to keep their newly awarded Obamacare subsidies on the down low. They held meetings where they discussed how they could mislead the public, through carefully worded responses designed to obfuscate the hypocrisy of refusing to live under the same laws they had imposed on their constituencies.

I have no doubt that obamacare will “implode” as it was designed that way. The question is will we subsequently go to a totally government run system or we will go back to a good market-based system? Let’s hope sanity prevails
