WE DID IT! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

WE DID IT! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Ed. Note: Until late last night, late Monday night in fact, the Texas Convention of States bill was blocked from floor vote by the Calendar Committee (under the control of Speaker Joe Straus), unlikely to ever again see the light of day. Then late Monday night, May 11, 2015, HJR 77 was voted out of the Calendar Committee, passed to the floor for a vote on Thursday, May 14, 2015. If you were one of the hundreds of conservatives who called your Texas Congressperson, stand up now and take a bow! But make no mistake grassroots activists, all we are seeing today are those few brave troops who leapt from their safe, comfortable foxholes and are now charging toward a minefield. You have taken your bow, now prepare your dialing digits to let the Texas Congress know their support is required for the Thursday vote. Back to Work! Below is the email from Tamara Colbert, Texas Director, COS Project, received Monday, May 11, 2015.

BREAKING NEWS!!! HJR 77 passed the Texas House on May 14, 2015! CLICK HERE for Tamara’s latest update on what we can do now to help seal the deal in Texas!

COS Acton Texas for embedTexas COS Supporters, I cannot begin to explain to you the heroic efforts of your calls, emails and those of you who showed up in Austin to remind legislators of HJR 77 and asking them to get it out of the Calendars Committee and to the Floor for a vote.

The Calendars Committee voted tonight 9-5 to pass HJR 77 to the Floor for a vote on Thursday, May 14.

“Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are inevitably ruined.”  Patrick Henry, speech in the Virginia Ratifying Convention, June 5, 1778

We now have 31 co-sponsors in favor of Article V as the Constitutional remedy to reclaim self-governance in America and put the brakes on DC’s overreach. More Texas heroes–look out federal government. Here comes Texas! Here they are…if one of them happens to be your representative please call them and/or email them to say THANK YOU!

We are not through yet. We still have the vote on Thursday. Anyone who wants to be there on Thursday to lobby legislators to remind them to vote yes and then sit in the gallery to watch the activities and vote please come—we don’t have a time when they expect to vote, but we will keep you notified. Wear your favorite red, white and blue!

What a kick when we walked into Rep. Geren’s office and identified ourselves as Convention of States. His staffers said, “oh we know who you are, we’ve had over 400 phone calls today in favor of HJR 77!” Incredible effort. Everyone who called was amazing.

Thank you for inspiring all of us on the ground in Austin today. We salute you!

Details on Thursday’s vote to come.

I fear that placing this on the Thursday calender is just a poke in the eye from Straus! The House is, at least, a day behind on the calender and the chances of getting a vote on ANYTHING on the Thursday calender is highly unlikely. This is a strategy used very often in the past to placate voices! We will just have to wait and see. I hope I am wrong but if past behavior is any indication of future actions then this will be the case. It will be “entertaining” to watch the House on Thursday. Look for long discussions on “irrelevant” bills as Straus and his cronies attempt to slow the process and keep MANY bills from coming up before midnight!
