With Heavy Hearts

Ed. Note: Our thoughts and prayers are with the Orlando victims and their families. Eternal vigilance is the price of freedom. God bless America…and give us wisdom, strength, and resolve to overcome this evil threat.

Sometimes it’s hard to find the right words to say in the aftermath of a tragedy like what happened in Orlando over the weekend. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their loved ones. We are shocked and saddened by the horrific terror attack that claimed the lives of at least 49 people and injured dozens of others. All of the current evidence points to this being an act of radical Islamic terrorism. And of course many of our elected officials will say this isn’t a time to politicize this tragedy, but then will turn around and aim to limit our natural right to protect ourselves instead of focusing on the real problem.

Today, many Americans are wondering how many more lives must be lost to radical Islamic terrorism before our elected officials acknowledge this problem. We are asking the same question and we owe it to the victims and the loved ones impacted by all of these ruthless acts of violence to recognize the existence of radical Islamic terrorism and do everything within our Constitutional authority to stop it.

Before these senseless attacks occurred over the weekend, we were planning to have a big week focusing on the first amendment. There are at least two important things happening this week that need our attention. [On Tuesday, June 14] the House will vote on HR 5053 which would take some power away from the IRS to be able to target Americans on their political beliefs. This legislation passing will be a win for the first amendment. On Wednesday, the House Committee on Government Oversight and Reform will vote on censuring IRS Commissioner John Koskinen. While impeachment should be the fate of the IRS Commissioner, censure is at least a step in the right direction and would be a win for the first amendment.

While the terrorist attack in Orlando over the weekend was a senseless tragedy, we cannot allow the terrorists to completely disrupt our way of life. We ask that you continue to mourn for the victims and their families and to do whatever you feel compelled to do to support them – whether it is donating time, money, or blood to the causes that can directly help with that tragedy.

We also ask those of you who want to continue fighting for the first amendment this week, please keep an eye on your inboxes as we send important updates about the votes on HR 5053 [on Tuesday] and on the censure vote on IRS Commissioner John Koskinen on Wednesday.

We understand that there is a lot going on right now and we want to respect those who have been impacted by the tragedy in Orlando, but we also must continue to hold Congress accountable as they take serious steps that impact the first amendment this week. If anything changes, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Thank you for all that you do for this great country.

In liberty,
